Korey Glass October 29 2015, 0 Comments

Had some super fresh pieces arrive from Korey Glass out of Canada the other day. His reticellos are absolutely out of this world. This Rainbow Reticello Mashup Mini Tube is by far one of the most impressive little tubes I have ever seen. It is a 14mm Female Reticello Joint, with a fixed two hole diffuser. A really cool worked cab is attached on the back. Standing at 6'' tall, the shaping on this little guy is very nice and fits perfectly in your hand. Who are some of your favorite Canadian artists?

Incoming Headies From Humboldt September 30 2015, 0 Comments

We recently were able to pick up several amazing pieces from W.C. Stearns, Mr. Gray, and Ben David. These guys all have their own iconic styles which all fuse together perfectly. Stearns is best known for his elaborate coral reef scenes he creates around his functional glass. Mr. Gray has his iconic Weed Leafs and Nugs along with his green dichro. Ben David is currently blowing up and getting bigger every day, his forest carvings make for some spectacular imagery. The First piece to arrive so far is an incredibly stunning Coral Reef Mini Tube by W.C. Stearns. It has ~70 attachments! What do you think of it?

Dave Goldstein Fritted glass Perc September 15 2015, 0 Comments

Dave Goldstein has been been blowing glass for easily four decades. He was even a personal friend to Captain Ed himself! That's what he told us when we met him at the American Glass Expo in Las Vegas.  He also told us had a back ground in laboratory glass blowing and noticed that none of the "functional" smoke wear was really as functional as true laboratory glass equipment. So he set out with one goal in mind, to make smoke wear that was laboratory grade. Dave had knowledge of fritted glass scrubbers used to scrub gasses with liquids from his time spent at University of Maryland’s technical glass shop in 1980-81. A fritted glass disc is a "disc" of crushed glass all fused together. Gasses or in this case smoke, that passes through the gaps in the crushed glass is scrubbed and cleaned. The only problem was, none of fritted discs available functioned at lung pressure. Through trial and error he was able to create a fritted disc coarse enough to function at lung pressure and completed his first prototype in April 2011. After realizing how  innovative and functional it was, he filed for a patent in December 2011. If you have never had the pleasure of using one of these, you are missing out!

Now Carrying ill Glass September 03 2015, 0 Comments

These are some of the most impressive functional pieces out on the market. The level of detail is astounding, and quality control seems to never let anything less than perfect leave the warehouse. Hand made Colorado, U.S.A. these are Illuzion Glass Galleries personal scientific line. When you hold one in your hand, you can immediately feel the high level of craftsmanship that went into this piece. They are all thick, and have a nice hefty weight to them. They have many popular models, as well as many models mixed together for more function. You will also find no shortage of collabs with your favorite high end glass artists such as, Darby Holm, Buck, Joe Peters, Jason Lee, JOP, and many many more! My personal favorite model right now would have to be the 50 watt recycler. The function is superb, you don't have to worry about inhaling a mouthful of water, and it is a nice compact design.  What is your favorite ill glass model?

Sticky Fingers? September 01 2015, 1 Comment

Ever get handed a dabber with some sticky oil running down the side that you did not see, only to end up with the worlds stickiest fingers? Of course you have, it's happened to all  of us. It can be a real pain to get that stuff off successfully. A common solution to this problem that many people use is rubbing alcohol because it's usually what they clean their rigs with. Repeated use of rubbing alcohol will dry out your skin, not to mention you are wasting your rig cleaning supplies. Soap and water just cant cut through it, and if you are not able to get it off your fingers soon, you will transfer the sticky oil on to something else! Recently I came across a product that is so amazing at removing oil, I'm surprised more people don't already know more about it! "Hustle Butter" is originally purposed for tattoo care, however it's natural residue removing abilities are superb. Hustle Butter is a 100% vegan replacement for all petroleum based products for tattoo care. Made from mango, coco, papaya and other shea butters, it's a great all natural solution to getting rid of sticky fingers! What is your favorite method for removing sticky oil from your fingers?

Proud Hi Si Glass Retailer August 18 2015, 1 Comment

We at Captain Ed's have been very fond of Hi Si for many years now. Hand made in San Leandro, California.  They offer a unique selection of percolated Water Pipes that will help reduce the negative effects associated with inhaling hot smoke. It all starts at the bowl, the Hi Si Drain Slide is going to offer maximum air flow and reduce drag through out the entire piece. Next, the smoke passes through the Tear Drop Honey Comb Diffuser and is chopped up into hundreds of small bubbles rapidly being cooled by the water reservoir. Then the smoke passes through one of the many different Peculator models offered by Hi Si and receives additional cooling. Finally the smoke passes through the Industrial Ice Pinces, so thick they can hold crushed ice for maximum cooling! Hi Si calls out to all our inner Mad Scientists with their clever Periodic Table of Elements logo and Measurement Lines printed along the sides of many of their models. Fans of function and style will not be disappointed when pulling out a Hi Si at their next gathering.  Order yours today!
